BUICK LINE-UP
The line of Buick, one of the oldest marques at General Motors, contains some of the newest GM nameplates. Buick's 2009 models include two sedans – Lucerne and LaCrosse – and a luxury crossover utility vehicle (CUV) called Enclave. The two sedans include V8-powered Buick Super editions, while Enclave for 2009 gains a more powerful V8 engine with direct injection technology.
Lucerne
Buick's largest sedan with front-wheel-drive (FWD) traction brings luxurious appointments and high-tech mechanical components like GM's Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) suspension and StabiliTrak skid controls. Lucerne stocks a V6 or V8 engine, seats for five or six and innovations for safety. The cabin, engineered with Buick's QuietTuning measures for noise damping, contains fancy gear, either stock or optional. A 3.9-liter V6 rated at 227 hp is the new standard plant for Lucerne CX, which gains more luxury features. Lucerne Super gets the 4.6-liter Northstar V8 rated at 292 hp, and the V8 is an option on Lucerne CXL.
LaCrosse
Buick's mid-size sedan feels like a well-heeled car with a plush ride quality, surprisingly quiet isolation for the passenger compartment and more than sufficient pedal power. The cabin offers seats for five or six. The six-seat version sets a bench for three in front of the three-place back bench, while a five-seat arrangement applies twin front buckets divided by a console with padded armrest. LaCrosse Super edition packs a 300-hp small-block V8 rigged with GM's Active Fuel Management (AFM) technology to save on fuel. LaCrosse CX and CXL models contain a 3.8-liter V6 for 200 hp.
Enclave
Buick's curvaceous CUV looks sharp in a slinky package decorated with a chrome-plated prow. The sculpted body measures nearly 17 feet long and carries a full-size passenger compartment with seats for seven or eight and a wagonload of cushy amenities in the mode of a premium luxury car. Both trims – CX and CXL – stock electronic traction control (ETC) and StabiliTrak, with options for FWD or all-wheel-drive (AWD) traction. Motivation stems from a new and more powerful 3.6-liter V6, which delivers 288 hp through a GM Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic shifter.
