2007 HYUNDAI NEW CAR MODEL GUIDE

HyundaiHyundai of South Korea invests in North America with its Alabama assembly plant, a Michigan technology and engineering center, California research and design studios, plus a desert test track. As a result, vehicles in Hyundai's extensive line for '07 slant directly toward the American market. Expect new versions of compact-class Elantra sedan and hatchback, Santa Fe mid-size SUV and Hyundai's minivan -- Entourage.

Hyundai Sonata
2007 Hyundai Sonata

The mid-size sedan from Hyundai has a spacious cabin containing premium features and lots of safety equipment -- electronic stability control (ESC) with a traction control system (TCS) and six air bags including curtain-style inflators in the roof. Sonata offers three new trims, beginning with GLS and climbing to SE and deluxe Limited. Powertrains are a 2.4-liter four-pack with CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) for 162 hp or a 3.3-liter V6 worth 234 hp. For the 2.4 plant a five-speed manual is standard with a four-speed Shiftronic automatic optional, while the V6 ties to a five-speed Shiftronic automatic.

Hyundai Azera

Hyundai's luxurious four-door flagship is a premium performance sedan sculpted with aerodynamic sheetmetal and crafted with a five-seat cabin lined in leather. The cabin applies front buckets seats and a rear bench with split folding seatback. Azera offers trims of GLS and Limited plus the Ultimate Package. Engine for all is a dual-cam 3.8-liter V6 delivering 265 hp through a five-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic manual shift mode. Noteworthy safety features appear like ESC with TCS plus eight air bags including curtain-style air bags above side window, and 2007 editions stock a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Hyundai Accent

Hyundai's subcompact cars in 2007 appear as a four-door sedan or new three-door coupe. Each is laced with safety features like curtain-style air bags. The sedan moves an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and four-wheel disc brakes to the option list for 2007 models. Accent's single trim -- a well-equipped GLS -- comes with a 172-watt AM/FM/CD audio system, 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback and a tilting steering wheel. Power stems from Hyundai's 1.6-liter four-in-line engine scored to 110 hp with a standard five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic. [Read RTM's Full Review]

Hyundai's compact-class four-door sedan and five-door hatchback wagon win a generational make-over which produces striking new body styling on an expanded package with more standard safety gear aboard. The equipment adds four-wheel disc brakes linked to ABS with EBD, and six air bags including curtain-style air bags in headliners. There are three trim levels -- entry GLS, luxurious Limited and sporty GT. The GLS Premium Package installs a 172-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with six speakers and an auxiliary audio jack. Engine for all Elantras is Hyundai's 2.0-liter four-cylinder plant with CVVT and a power rating of 138 hp.

Hyundai's unibody front-wheel-drive (FWD) SUV shows up in an expanded package for 2007 with two powertrain options and class-leading standard safety content. The new body measures about seven inches longer, an inch wider and two inches taller. With extra cabin space, there's room for three tiers of seats with an optional third-row bench. A base 2.7-liter V6 produces 185 hp, while the available 3.3-liter V6 spins out 242 hp. electronically controlled all-wheel-drive (AWD) traction is available with the larger V6, while safety gear includes ABS and EBD plus ESC, active head restraints and curtain-style air bags.

Hyundai Tucson
2007 Hyundai Tuscon

Hyundai's small-class SUV, riding on a car's platform and packing extensive standard safety features, presents a shapely sheetmetal package and flexible passenger compartment with seats for five plus room at the rear for gear. Tucson brings four-cylinder and V6 powertrain options across three levels of trim -- base GLS, upgraded SE and deluxe Limited. Tucson GLS gets Hyundai's 2.0-liter four-in-line CVVT with 140 hp and a five-speed manual or optional four-speed Shiftronic automatic. Tucson SE and Limited rate Hyundai's 2.7-liter V6 for 173 hp. The SUV also supports two traction formats with FWD or AWD.

Hyundai Entourage

That's the new name for Hyundai's first minivan in North America, which joins the Class of 2007. Entourage rides on a platform with a long wheelbase and broad track, which sets up spacious quarters for the passenger compartment. There's room for seven with second-row seats that flip and fold and a rear bench split 60/40 that disappears into the flat floor. A twin-cam 3.8-liter CVVT V6 motivates this minivan with 242 hp and ties to a five-speed Shiftronic automatic. Standard safety features range from curtain-style air bags for all outboard seats to four-channel ABS with EBD and ESC.
