2007 New Car Model Guide: Mercury Cars, Trucks, & SUVs

2007 MERCURY NEW CAR MODEL GUIDE

MercuryThree sedans and four wagons make up the 2007 collection by Mercury from the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company. Sedans include a premium mid-size model called Montego and the Milan, sized one step below Montego. Wagons range from the truck-based SUV Mountaineer to car-based wagons like Mariner and the gas-electric Mariner Hybrid or Mercury's minivan, Monterey.

Mercury Montego

Mercury's premium sedan has the body of a mid-size model but the cabin of a big car with seats for five plus luxury gear and an enormous trunk with large-car capacity. Montego shares DNA with Ford's Five Hundred, as the architecture for both vehicles comes from Volvo. Ford's Duratec 3.0-liter V6 engine fuels Montego with 203 hp and there are options for a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or six-speed automatic. All-wheel-drive (AWD) traction is optional, while standard safety equipment increases in 2007 to include side air bags for front seats and Ford's Safety Canopy curtain-style air bags.

Mercury Milan

Mercury's four-door mid-size sedan wears expressive sheetmetal outside and comes with a passenger compartment big enough to carry five adults comfortably. Milan offers two trim packages with entry-issue Milan and dressy Premier. There are two engine options -- a 2.3-liter four-cylinder plant or dual-cam 3.0-liter V6. The four-pack produces 160 hp and links to a five-speed manual transmission or five-speed automatic. The 221-hp V6 employs a six-speed automatic. For added safety, side-impact air bags and curtain-style air bags are now standard equipment, as is an anti-lock brake system (ABS).

Mercury Grand Marquis

With a long and broad body-on-frame structure, V8 power and classic rear-wheel-drive (RWD) traction, Mercury's Grand Marquis sedan carries up to six adults and a load of luggage. The 2007 editions segment into two series of GS and LS, then add packaged equipment like the new Palm Beach edition for LS with side-impact air bags and upgraded luxury gear. Beneath the extended hood, a single-cam 4.6-liter V8 achieves 224 hp in all versions except with the optional handling package on LS, where dual exhausts boost the output to 239 hp.

Mercury Mariner
2007 Mercury Mariner

This compact SUV is a crossover wagon riding on a car's platform. It stocks premium equipment and optional V6 power plus front-wheel-drive (FWD) or automatic AWD traction. The tony cabin, with two rows of seats for five, features woodgrain trim with bright chrome and satin aluminum accents. Mariner divides into three grades -- Convenience, Luxury and Premier, the latter with luxury touches and leather seats. A base 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine makes 153 hp. The 3.0-liter V6 climbs to 200 hp and goes to Luxury and Premier models. New body paints for 2007 models include Light Sage Clearcoat Metallic.

Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Mercury's hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) off Mariner the crossover SUV has a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that drinks gasoline plus a battery-powered electric motor. The electric plant can propel the wagon or work with the gas engine to deliver a power boost like the kick of a V6. An electronic control module manages energy produced by the two plants and sends it directly to the front wheels -- or to all four wheels for the optional AWD version -- through an electronically controlled CVT. A Premium Package installs leather upholstery, heated seats and a reverse sensing system (RSS).

Mercury Mountaineer

Mid-size Mountaineer the truck-based SUV brings a passenger compartment of generous scale with three rows of seats and lots of on-board amenities, such as power-controlled running boards tucked into rocker panels. The seats include benches on second and third rows which fold down to form a flat cargo floor. A 210-hp 4.0-liter V6 is the standard engine, while a 4.6-liter V8 is available for 292 hp. Optional AWD models use Ford's Control Trac system to automatically channel engine torque to any wheel. The AWD gear also includes Ford's AdvanceTrac traction controller with Roll Stability Control (RSC).

Mercury Monterey

Mercury's luxury minivan puts a waterfall grille up front with satin aluminum accents and flanks decked with monochromatic cladding. The cabin has three rows of seats with front buckets, seats on the second row foldable and a third-tier bench that folds into the floor. Power flows from a 4.2-liter V6 engine rated at 201 hp. One well-equipped model called Monterey Luxury trims with wood-grain and chrome-finished accents and a standard wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Leather upholstery and power sliding doors are available, plus Ford's Safety Canopy curtain-style air bags and a DVD-based video entertainment system.
