2007 New Car Model Guide: Mitsubishi Cars, Trucks, & SUVs

2007 MITSUBISHI NEW CAR MODEL GUIDE

MitusubshiThe marque of Mitsubishi mounts on five different cars in 2007 for the North American market plus two sport-utility vehicles and a mid-size truck. Eclipse, the sporty 2+2 coupe, spins off a new convertible variation dubbed Eclipse Spyder, while the Outlander five-door crossover wagon scores a new generational design that's larger and more powerful.

Mitsubishi Galant
2007 Mitsubishi Galant

Mitsubishi's mid-size sedan for 2007 trims in multiple segments including a new Ralliart edition with sport-tuned hardware aboard, like taut suspension tweaking and bolstered bucket seats. Galant DX is the price leader and the luxury model is the ES followed by GTS. Galant shows four-cylinder and V6 engine choices. The base four displaces 2.4 liters and nets 160 hp, while a 3.8-liter V6 for GTS makes 230 hp and the new MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control) V6 in Ralliart hits 258 hp. Galant Ralliart shows a sport mesh grille with two-tone bumper treatment.

Mitsubishi Lancer
2007 Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi's compact sedan repeats '06 editions for 2007 while awaiting new treatment in 2008. There are three editions. Two trims pull from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine worth 120 hp with a five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission. Lancer ES is the base issue, with Lancer O-Z Rally wearing sporty body additions inspired by rally racers. Lancer Ralliart draws on Lancer Evolution for styling and brings more hardware and power from a 2.4-liter four with 162 hp. A Sun & Sound package for OZ and Ralliart installs power sunroof, Infinity audio system and rear seatback split 60/40 with armrest.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

This is the street-legal version of Mitsubishi's trophy-grabbing World Rally Championship (WRC) racer. Consider it a high-performance version of the Lancer compact sedan but motivated by a souped-up turbo engine and equipped with all-wheel-drive (AWD) traction, a bulging air scoop on the hood, pontoon-style fenders, high-strength alloy wheels, a carbon-fiber spoiler on the tail and the cockpit fitted with bolstered Recaro sport bucket seats. Heart of Evo is a 2.0-liter four-in-line -- turbo-charged and inter-cooled -- pumping 286 hp. Trims are notched as Evo RS, IX and MR.

Mitsubishi Eclipse
2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Mitsubishi's California designers delivered a sleek and fresh expression for Eclipse in '06 and it returns in the 2007 line. There's only one body style -- a two-door hatchback coupe -- but two trim variations, each with a different engine. Eclipse GS is the bottom-price model with a four-cylinder engine tied to a five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic with Sport-ronic sequential shift. The 2.4-liter in-line-four makes 162 hp. Eclipse GT brings a 3.8-liter V6 good for 263 hp through a six-speed manual or five-speed Sportronic automatic.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder
2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

The 2+2 sports convertible by Mitsubishi runs with the label of Eclipse Spyder. It's new for 2007 using styling, structure and mechanical content of the Eclipse sporty coupe. There's one style and two trims, each with a different engine and two transmission choices. Eclipse Spyder GS is the entry edition with a 2.4-liter in-line-four rated at 162 hp with a five-speed manual gearbox or optional four-speed automatic linked to Sportronic shift control. Eclipse GT has a 3.8-liter V6 with 260 hp and either a six-speed manual or five-speed electronic automatic with Sportronic shifting.

Mitsubishi Outlander

Mitsubishi's five-door crossover wagon scores a generational update with a new platform, revamped trim designations and changes in the power department. Size-wise it's longer, wider and taller than the previous version, and a five-seat passenger compartment brings elbow room and legroom too. Power flows from a 3.0-liter V6 MIVEC engine with 220 hp through a six-speed automatic Sportronic shifter. Trims line up as LS and XLS, each with standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) or electronically controlled AWD linked to integrated stability control, which Mitsubishi calls All-Wheel Control (AWC).

Mitsubishi Endeavor
2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor

Mitsubishi's mid-size crossover wagon blends manners of a luxury sedan with the elevated stance and cargo capacity of a SUV plus cabin flexibility like a minivan. It's easy to drive because the rigid unibody structure and handling hardware match mechanical equipment on a FWD car. Yet Endeavor resembles a sizeable SUV in format and can carry a wagon's load of cargo, while the spacious cabin has comfortable seats arranged in two rows for up to five riders and there are fancy amenities aboard. Powertrain is a 3.8-liter V6 which achieves 215 hp through a four-speed automatic Sportronic.

Mitsubishi Raider
2007 Mitsubishi Raider

Mitsubishi's truck offers two-wheel-drive (2WD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) traction and trims of LS and DuroCross. Raider also shows two cab formats. The Extended Cab contains two rows of seats for four and two rear-hinged doors, but Double Cab has four full-size doors and seats for five. The truck box varies, as Extended Cab uses a long-bed design and Double Cab totes an abbreviated bed. Raider LS Extended Cab with Convenience Package brings an audio upgrade with Sirius satellite radio service and wheels with silver centers, and there's an improved transfer case for the 4WD Raider Double Cab.
