2009 Vehicle Model Guide

2009 AUDI New Car Model Guide

AudiThe German automaker Audi produces a vast array of precisely mannered sedans and wagons, plus curvaceous sports coupes and convertibles. Audi uses alphanumeric tags for cars of subcompact, compact, mid-size and full-size classes with tags of A3, A4, A5, A6 and A8, plus sport series of S5, S6 and S8. Yet there are variations, like the TT slinky sports coupe and daring convertible roadster, or the Q7 CUV (crossover utility vehicle) and a stunning R8 mid-engine high-performance sports car. For the Class of 2009, Audi unleashes a new generation of A4 cars as four-door sedans and five-door Avant wagons.

2009 Audi A3A3 Series
Audi's subcompact A3 Sportback five-door hatch appears as A3 2.0T FrontTrak FWD (front-wheel-drive) or Quattro AWD (all-wheel-drive) and 3.2 S Quattro. A3 2.0T employs a 2.0-liter turbo-charged four-in-line engine with Audi's FSI (fuel straight injection) to make 200 hp with a manual six-speed or S-Tronic sequential automatic transmission. A3 3.2 S Quattro packs a 3.2-liter V6 worth 250 hp with the S-Tronic. All editions carry substantial safety equipment including ESP (electronic stabilization program). Leather seats and Sirius satellite radio appear in every 2009 A3, and Hill Hold Assist (HHA) is now standard on all 2.0T models.

2009 Aud A4A4 Series
Audi's prime series lands in a sleek and sporty new design for the four-door sedan and five-door Avant wagon. Both measure four inches longer with a stiff structure that sheds 10 percent of the weight. For the sedan, a new 2.0-liter FSI four-cylinder turbo engine delivers 211 hp with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission for FrontTrak traction, or for Quattro, either a manual six-speed or optional six-speed Tiptronic automatic. A4 Avant Quattro comes only with the 2.0-liter four-pack and Tiptronic automatic. A4 3.2 Quattro sedan uses a dual-cam 3.2-liter V6 for 265 hp with the Tiptronic.

2009 Audi A5A5 / S5 Series
The A5 coupe and sport-tuned S5 performance variation amount to slick-lined two-door vehicles with a cushy four-place cabin but different powertrains. Mark the A5 with Audi's 3.2-liter V6 FSI plant producing 265 hp. Upgrade S5 to a 4.2-liter FSI V8, which delivers 354 hp. Both A5 and S5 show Audi's Quattro AWD traction and a standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional six-speed Tiptronic automatic. The option chart also lists Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and a new Audi Drive Select (ADS) package with adaptive suspension dampers and dynamic steering system.

2009 Audi A6A6 Series
Middle-size Audi cars conform to sedan and wagon formats with sensuous sheetmetal shapes. The series begins with A6 3.2 FrontTrak sedan and A6 Avant 3.2 Quattro, each with Audi's 3.2-liter V6 and a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission or CVT. More muscle goes to A6 4.2 with a 4.2-liter FSI V8. All A6 cars draw bodywork from the S-line with 18-inch alloy wheels and a tail spoiler, while standard equipment includes headlamp washers and Sirius satellite radio service.

2009 Audi S6S6
A high-performance mid-size sedan off the A6 is badged as S6. Its running gear is staggering — enough to create a supercar. Core ingredients are a 5.2-liter FSI V10 that boils to 435 hp with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission coupled to Audi's Quattro AWD system. S6 rolls on 19-inch wheels and flashes a single-frame grille with vertical struts up front and a spoiler on the tail. Luxurious appointments in the five-seat cabin include Silk Nappa leather upholstery and Birch Gray wood trim or optional carbon fiber.

2009 Audi A8A8 / A8L Series
Audi's large-car series — cast on a unitized aluminum structure, then fitted with sophisticated mechanical systems and extravagant luxuries — comes in two lengths with the A8L riding on a stretched-wheelbase platform. A8 and A8L employ the 4.2-liter FSI V8 with a ZF six-speed electronic automatic transmission and Tiptronic manual shift mode. All A8 models also use Audi's Quattro AWD and ESP. A new Cold Weather Package adds a heated leather steering wheel with shift paddles and heated rear seats.

2009 Audi S8S8
A8 spins off a high-performance S8 variation. Engine is Audi's quad-cam 5.2-liter FSI V10, which produces massive torque directed through a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission shuttled to Audi's Quattro AWD system with asymmetric/dynamic torque split biased toward the rear wheels. The super sedan rolls on 20-inch wheels and contains a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension, plus heavy-duty brakes. Lavish cabin appointments range from Valcona leather upholstery to Bose surround-sound audio equipment and seat heating for every passenger. A new Technology Package brings ACC, Audi Side Assist (ASA) and Audi Lane Assist (ALA).

2009 Audi Q7Q7 Series
Audi's large-scale CUV in five-door wagon format has a car-like unibody structure, muscular engine options and a wagonload of high-tech vehicle controls and safety equipment. Q7's cabin contains up to three tiers of seats with rear rows that fold into the floor. A big 4.2-liter FSI V8 delivers 350 hp with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro AWD traction system. Or a 3.6-liter FSI V6 achieves 280 hp. Trims for 2009 line up as Q7 3.6, Q7 3.6 Premium, Q7 4.2 and Q7 4.2 Prestige.

2009 Audi Q5Q5
Seeming like a miniature edition of the Q7, Audi's new Q5 CUV fits in the compact segment and provides a luxury-class cabin with seats for five riders, plus room for cargo in the rear bay. Powertrain is Audi's 3.2-liter FSI V6 with AVS (Audi Valvelift System) and output of 270 hp with a Tiptronic six-speed automatic transmission and the latest edition of Audi's Quattro AWD with asymmetric rear-biased torque split. Standard cockpit equipment ranges from a Bang & Olufsen 505-watt sound system with 14 speakers to a navigation system with real-time traffic information.

2009 Audi TTSTT Series
Audi's compact two-door machines appear as slinky sports coupes or daring convertible roadsters with curvy skin stretched tautly over exaggerated wheels. The FrontTrak or Quattro TT 2.0T totes Audi's 2.0-liter turbo FSI plant with a six-speed S-Tronic sequential automatic transmission. The Quattro TT stokes the 3.2-liter V6 working 250 hp with either a six-speed manual or six-speed S-Tronic automatic gearbox. New top-tier TTS coupe and roadster get a high-performance 2.0-liter FSI turbo four engine drawing 265 hp with the six-speed manual or S-Tronic sequential automatic.

2009 Audi R8R8 Series
Audi's hand-built aluminum sports car — a stunning work of automotive art with perfectly balanced mid-engine architecture — provides Quattro AWD traction and a high-revving 420-hp FSI V8 tied to a six-speed manual stick with metal shift gate or the malleable R-Tronic sequential automatic gearbox. R8 technical highlights include eight-piston 15-inch front brake rotors, Audi's magnetic ride suspension system and 19-inch alloy wheels capped by high-performance tires. Options encompass a Bang & Olufsen sound kit, navigation system and carbon fiber trimwork for sideblade, interior inlays and engine compartment trim.
