Biloxi
Beauvoir is the retirement estate of Confederate President Jefferson Davis in Biloxi, Mississippi. Developed by planter-entrepreneur James Brown, the gulfside estate grew to encompass approximately 500 acres and was dominated by an imposing Louisiana raised cottage-style residence, constructed in 1848-1851. Now home to a museum and future site of Gulf Coast Botanical Gardens. www.beauvoir.org

The Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art pays homage to the "Mad Potter of Biloxi," noted throughout the art world for his unique pottery which boasts paper-thin walls and brilliant glazes. The museum hosts national and regional traveling exhibits, along with the works of local artists. www.georgeohr.org

Tullis-Toledano Manor was built in 1856 on Biloxi's East Beach for Christoval and Matilde Toledano. One of the Mississippi Gulf Coast's most unique examples of antebellum architecture, it is now a museum. For more information, call 228-435-6293.
